Over what has become a long career in medicine, orthopedic surgeon Dr. Mark Dekutoski has quite often shared the vast amount of knowledge he has accumulated with other experts in the field, especially those who are developing into the new generation of orthopedic surgeons. That is one major reason why he is so highly respected worldwide for his expertise. Mark Dekutoski MD is now considered to be a world-renowned orthopedic spine surgeon as well as a researcher of some note.

Dr. Mark Dekutoski currently works with the CORE Institute in Arizona, where he specializes in such diverse areas as minimally-invasive spine treatments for adults and children. He also studies and writes on scoliosis, kyphosis, spine tumors, spondylolisthesis and disc degeneration. Besides his strong research prowess, Dr. Dekutoski has published dozens of peer-reviewed articles. A number of those have received accolades over the years, with the most celebrated being, “The AOSpine North America Cervical Spondylotic Myelopathy Study: Perioperative complication rates associated with surgical treatment based on a prospective multicenter study of 302 patients,” which won Global Spine Congress Best Paper Award 1st Place from AOSPINE International.

Although Dr. Mark Dekutoski has spent the majority of his time since 1993 incredibly immersed in the surgical needs of his patients, he has also utilized his additional time as wisely as possible to remaining needs of his medical field, his workplace and his fellow staff. From 1993 to 2013, Dekutoski served in a variety of increasingly responsible and challenging roles with the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, primarily working within the Department of Orthopedic Surgery and aiding the institution’s College of Medicine and Division of Orthopedic Spine Surgery, in addition to administrative duties. However, during this time, he also accepted various appointments at the organization, including Senior Associate Consultant of the Division of Adult Reconstruction for three years early in his tenure and both Instructor and Associate Professor -- at different times -- for the clinic’s College of Medicine.

Additional major appointments outside the clinic and region occurred during this renowned surgeon’s career as well. Mark Dekutoski served as a principle mentor to orthopedic and neurological trainees in complex spine surgery in addition to developing key pioneering trauma techniques in the surgical field. He has served as Chairman of the Mayo Clinic Medical School Orthopedic curriculum and Chair of the Scoliosis Research Society and AOSpine North America Educational committees. His appointments also include presentations at more than 300 Continuing Medical Education lecture events.

Before joining their team, he worked for more than twenty years at the world-renowned Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota and currently Dr. Mark Dekutoski works on both adults and pediatric on minimally invasive spine deformity such as scoliosis, kyphosis, spinal tumors, spondylolisthesis and disc degeneration cases, making him a general practitioner of this field. He has an excellent reputation and over sixty peer reviewed publications to back his work up. Dr. Mark Dekutoski looks forward to doing more great work at The CORE Institute.
